The base game and the Horus wild
Ten fixed lines pay from left to right. The picture symbols, Eye of Horus, Anubis, the falcon, the scarab, the ankh and the lotus, pay from three in a row; the card ranks pay the least.
Horus himself is the wild. He lands only on reels 2, 3 and 4, and when he does he stretches to fill the whole reel, standing in for everything except the Temple scatter. One expanded wild in the middle of the reels can complete several lines at once, which is where most base-game wins of any size come from.
Free games and the upgrade tablet
Three or more Temple scatters pay out and start 12 free games. A tablet appears above the reels showing the six picture symbols in order of value. During the round, every Horus wild that lands does two jobs.
First, it upgrades the lowest picture symbol still on the tablet. The order never changes:
- Lotus
- Ankh
- Scarab
- Falcon
- Anubis
- Eye of Horus
After five upgrades every picture symbol on the reels pays as the Eye of Horus, the top symbol. The card ranks A, K, Q and J are never upgraded, so they remain the weak spot of any bonus.
Second, wilds add spins: one wild gives one extra free game, two give three and three give five. A round that collects several wilds early can therefore run long, with upgraded symbols paying throughout.
Eye of Horus paytable
Line wins as multiples of your total stake. The scatter pays anywhere on the reels.

Return to player and how swingy it is
The main version returns 96.31%, a touch above the slot average. Blueprint also supplies editions at 94%, 93%, 92.04% and 90.25%, and the version in use is printed in the game rules. It is worth a look before you deposit.
Volatility is high. Base-game spins are often quiet, and the real value sits in free games where upgrades have had time to build. The best single spin pays 500x: five Eyes across all ten lines.
The card gamble
Some versions offer a gamble after a base-game win. You guess the colour of a face-down card to double the win, or its suit to quadruple it, and can repeat up to five times. A wrong guess loses the win. Whether the option appears depends on the casino’s build of the game, and it is always optional.
Rules for British players
- Spins cost between 10p and £5; players aged 18 to 24 are limited to £2.
- Every spin is started by hand. Autoplay and turbo are switched off, and each game round lasts at least 2.5 seconds.
- The casino checks your age before letting you open any version of the game, free or paid.
- Bonus wagering requirements cannot go beyond 10x.
- GamStop lets you exclude yourself from all UK-licensed operators in one step.
Trying it for free first
The free-play version uses the same maths as the paid one. Because free games are what matter here, play long enough to trigger the bonus at least once and see how many upgrades a typical round reaches. That tells you more than any number of base-game spins.
Eye of Horus on mobile
The game loads in Safari or Chrome on any modern phone. Held sideways, the upgrade tablet sits above the reels just as on desktop, and the controls collapse into a single row at the bottom of the screen.
The wider Eye of Horus family
The original’s success led Blueprint to build a whole range around it. The versions you are most likely to see in a British lobby:
- Eye of Horus Megaways: up to 15,625 ways to win and a top prize of 10,000x.
- The Golden Tablet: free games that can retrigger without limit.
- Fortune Play: adds a mode where a golden Horus upgrades every symbol at once.
- Jackpot King: the classic reels linked to Blueprint’s progressive jackpot, at a lower RTP.
Check the title in the game window, as these versions differ in return and volatility.
How to start playing
- Register with a UK-licensed casino from the table above.
- Verify your age and identity.
- Search for Eye of Horus and confirm it is the classic version.
- Read the RTP in the rules screen and try a few free rounds.
- Deposit, choose your stake and set a loss limit.
Verdict
Eye of Horus is a slot for players who like a bonus with a story: every wild in free games visibly improves the reels. The base game is plain, and the 500x per-spin ceiling is modest, but the tablet mechanic keeps the bonus tense from first spin to last.
Pros
- Upgrades build value through the bonus
- Wilds extend free games
- 96.31% in the main version
- Simple ten-line layout
Cons
- Quiet base game
- Card symbols never upgrade
- Lower RTP editions are common
Eye of Horus explained in brief
Who makes Eye of Horus?
The online game comes from Reel Time Gaming and is distributed by Blueprint Gaming. It is based on a Merkur cabinet that was a fixture in German and British arcades before it moved online in 2016.
How do the free games start?
Three, four or five Temple scatters anywhere on the reels pay 2x, 20x or 50x your stake and start 12 free games.
How do symbol upgrades work?
In free games every Horus wild that lands upgrades one picture symbol on the tablet above the reels: Lotus to Ankh, then Ankh to Scarab, Scarab to Falcon, Falcon to Anubis and Anubis to the Eye of Horus. After five upgrades all picture symbols pay as the Eye.
Can the free games be extended?
Yes, through the wilds. One Horus in a free spin adds one more game, two add three and three add five.
Where does the Horus wild appear?
Only on reels 2, 3 and 4. It expands to fill its reel and substitutes for every symbol except the Temple scatter.
Which return figure should I expect?
Blueprint lists 96.31% for the main version and also offers 94%, 93%, 92.04% and 90.25% editions to casinos. The game’s help screen shows which one you are playing.
How much can one spin pay?
Up to 500x your stake, which is five Eyes of Horus on all ten lines. Some sites quote higher totals for a whole bonus round.
What stake limits apply in Britain?
From 10p to £5 a spin, with a £2 limit for players aged 18 to 24. Autoplay and turbo spins are not available to British players.

High volatility means long losing runs are normal. Set a budget you are happy to lose, use the deposit and reality-check tools in your account, and walk away rather than chasing a bonus.
